Dark Mode isn't just a colour swap. Done properly, it requires going back to first principles — rethinking how every component behaves when the context flips, and making sure those decisions live in the system, not just the screen.
At Nutmeg, I was the dedicated designer for the Mobile App — and the work quickly became as much about the Design System as about the product. I extended the DS to mobile in close collaboration with iOS and Android developers, created the Dark Mode theme for both platforms, and contributed to the component libraries that underpinned the whole product ecosystem.
It's where I first learned that design systems aren't a library problem. They're a collaboration problem.
